Getting Started**

Which Vespa is right for me?

You should choose your Vespa based on how you plan to use it.  If you expect to just ride around Newport or Providence's East Side mostly by yourself, then the LX50 may be just fine. However, if you plan to have a passenger much of the time, or want to travel to Middletown and Portsmouth on a regular basis, or if greater Providence is your playground, then the LX150 might be a better bet for you.

The LX50 can get you across most of our Rhode Island bridges, but if you are commuting on a daily basis, you will probably feel more comfortable with the additional power of the LX150 or the GTS 250. The LX150 and GTS are legal on the highway are true “round the islands” machines.

These more powerful models have the extra speed that lets you can keep up with traffic and still have power in reserve for when you need it.

Vespa has various models with more powerful engines like the brand new the GTS 300, and with really cool styling options like the GTV 250. Vespa Newport also carries whatever original Vespa accessories you might want to add to your very own Vespa Scooter.

How can I pay for my Vespa?

We accept Visa and Mastercard as well as checks and cash, and we have financing plans available. We also suggest you check out E-Loan–you can apply right now! Also, check our Specials page or call our Sales Department to see if there are any special financing promotions.

Do I need a motorcycle License?

For the LX50, you do not need a motorcycle license in Rhode Island, although we highly recommend that all riders take a motorcycle safety course such as the one offered by the Community College of Rhode Island.   All other Vespa models do require a motorcycle license.  Successfully completing the CCRI Motorcycle Safetey Course will make you eligible for a motorcycle license.

How do I Register my Vespa?

  1. When you purchase your Vespa at Bruce Beard Automotive, we will provide and walk you through all the necesary paperwork for registering the scooter.

  2. You need to obtain motorcycle insurance.  You should contact your auto insurance carrier for details, and either add the Vespa to your auto coverage or obtain a stand-alone policy.

  3. Your Vespa needs to be registered. We can register your Vespa for a fee of $65, or you can go the DMV and register the scooter yourself. We can provide temporary RI plates, which cost $20 and are good for twenty days.
